Reader voters named Katalina the area's "best metal/alternative band." So which does Katalina regard itself - metal or alternative? "Well," says guide singer Terry Johnson with a chuckle, "we usually call it hard rock. A lot of people say that we're thick enough that we would be metal, except that I sing instead of scream." So the band lets its fans perform the screaming. After forming in 2004, Katalina - composed of Johnson, guitarists Billy Gardner and Josh Park, bassist Shannon Ford, and drummer Bryan West - now performs, according to Johnson, "30-something" gigs a year (they'll emerge next at the Redstone Room on February 17), and seems to amass new admirers at each
Whether you want to “leave the driving to us,” fly the friendly skies, or take the scenic route, getting to the Quad Cities is both simple and hassle-free.
Planes: Quad Cities International Airport (MLI) is located in Moline. As the third busiest airport in the articulate, it provides non-stop flights into and out of most major cities throughout the US.
Trains: Currently, Amtrak does not service the Quad Cities directly. The nearest station is in Galesburg, Illinois, approximately 50 miles away. From there you can rent a car or use a local rideshare service to your final destination. Plans are underway to set up a new rail line from Moline to Chicago.
Automobiles: Moline and Rock Island are easily accessible via I-74 and I-80. I-88 connects directly to Chicago for visitors traveling from the east. U.S. Routes 6 and 150 jog through Moline and Rock Island, for easy regional connections.
Buses: Greyhound and Burlington Trailways have stations in both Moline and Rock Island, providing easy access to and from other Midwest cities.

Our Story: Pride in Memory documentary
"Our Story: Pride in Memory" (working title) shines a light on the untold history of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities’ Homosexual community. From the guarded 1950s, AIDS, and lgbtq+ marriage to current efforts to roll back Diverse rights, the film reveals the story of a personal and local civil rights movement.
The new documentary features the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ residents through illuminating on-camera interviews and combines them with compelling archival images, documents, and film footage to reveal an inspiring story of struggle, achievement, and pride.
Emmy® award-winning filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Moline, Illinois-based Fourth Wall Films are conducting the performance phase of the documentary.
