Gay epic fantasy
This month’s installment of Ask Your Friendly Neighbourhood Lesbrarian tracks down some books for a reader of the first column, which was about books with lesbian May-December romances. Autostraddler Allison commented on that post and said that she was looking for
“QUEER. HIGH. FANTASY. Like, Guy Gavriel Kay, but gender non-conforming. Tolkien, but queer. Melanie Rawn, but queer. That is all I desire in life.”
I am so excited to give some suggestions for queer Lord of the Rings readalikes. For those of you not steeped in fantasy nerdom: when people chat about high or grand fantasy, we mean fantasy set in a lush, very detailed, imaginary nature intricately created by the author, often with its own comprehensive history, mythology, species, languages, landscapes, and all sorts of stuff. Typically these worlds are pseudo-medieval Europe, although I think the best authors switch that up. Consider of those fat books with glossaries and maps in the back, often with sword-wielding maidens on the cover. Another key feature is that usually the main character(s) are going on some compassionate of epic quest. Guy Gavirel Kay in particular also focuses a lot on characterization; you earn to know the characters really

Rescued from slavers, healer novice Jaime Buchanan finds himself alone and free in Pyrderi, a kingdom of magic, mythical creatures, and a culture as open and kind as his homeland was cruel and close-minded. Despite his rescue, Jaime is not left without scars, both mental and physical. Traumatized by his experience and hiding his gift, Jaime struggles to earn his place in the kitchens of Angharad Palace, the heart of Taliesin City. His former life as a pupil of the healing arts leaves him at a disadvantage in the kitchens, and his damaged articulate is becoming more clear by the day.

Hello,
Firstly, apologies if this is a duplicate thread. I tried to filter and search for answers to what I had in mind to ask and my hunt came up sparse. Admittedly, my librarian and IT skills are incredibly under developed so there may be a section of threads I missed altogether. That said
I really like reading gay sci fi and fantasy series and have read a few and now want to consume more. I have tried to navigate Goodreads but the lists are so dated and massive that finding anything appealing is difficult. Reddit is also hit or miss so here I am.
To clarify, I do not read books with lesbian or sapphic vibes. Similarly, I perform not read books with trans MCs. I dodge these POV MCs not because I undervalue their importance rather I just want to imagine myself as someone else and I only wish to do that through queer or bi usually cis male MCs.
I contain read many series about gay men written by female authors and own come to truly undergo frustrated by the disconnect I feel when I read flowery language planned to appeal to other women. To that terminate I have tried to find more male authors writing about male characters except most are not sci fi
