Gods, and mortals, and Wagner – oh my! A concert in the woods has never felt so mysterious yet so familiar. The melodies penned by the German composer hold long been a part of our cultural awareness. Even if you don’t recognize the titles of Wagner’s operas, you’ve almost certainly heard (and hummed) his rousing tunes.
Wagner paired the grand scale of his music with bold storytelling, writing his possess libretto for each opera. His works tackle innateness, magic, and the psyche. He found inspiration from Norse mythology – enough inspiration to write four full-length operas, together recognizable as the Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Nibelungen). Other sources for his works include the legends of the Holy Grail (for Parsifal) and the Flying Dutchman (for his opera of the similar name).
An epic composer telling epic stories begs for an epic venue. Attach us in the excellent outdoors for a heart-racing adventure through Wagner’s repertoire.

Isa Genzken shows us the money
Why has the German artist worked coins and notes into her latest series of paintings?
In the art world, as in life, money is tough to ignore. Yet Isa Genzken’s Geldbilder, or Funds Pictures, which are due to go on reveal at Hauser & Wirth in London later this month, don’t feature the kind of cash we commonly associate with contemporary art.
These aren't the serried columns of a well balance sheet, or the vertiginous numbers associated with big auction house sales. Instead, the money in this year-old German artist’s new paintings, looks slapdash, badly kept, and slightly out of control.

In the pictures, acrylic paint has been applied unmixed, using a big brush or spray can, and is sometimes arranged to form a smiley face or a tag-like signature. Yet the decorate mainly serves as a backdrop for the cash. The works are a bit like Robert Rauschenberg’s collage/sculpture/painting hybrid ‘combines’, in the way the canvas holds Euro coins and notes and British pounds, as well as other pieces of everyday ephemera, such as personal photos, a

Even though it ended less than a decade ago, The L Word was made on a diverse planet. That’s because the last ten years acquire seen changes in the LGBTQIA community that could fill decades. The entertainment is endlessly fascinating and I’m sure I’ll compose about it again once I finish (I’m currently two seasons in), but I quickly wanted to touch upon the two probably trans characters introduced in the first season. I say probably transsexual because the characters on the show don’t appear to have any grasp on the complexities of gender (hell, they can barely handle Alice entity bisexual) so the word “transgender” is almost never used.
The first character is named Lisa and they name as a male woman loving woman. The main cast of characters doesn’t really grasp what to do with Lisa but they’re fairly welcoming. Alice dates them briefly and there’s a scene that at the time may have been intended as humorous but now reads as really tragic. Alice and Lisa are having sex at a party and Lisa wants to use a strap-on. Alice gets annoyed saying that he has the real thing and that he needs to accept he’s a guy. They break up soon after.
The other character is Ivan. First introduced as a drag k
