You're seriously delusional if you think Ragnar was in love with Athelstan. He loved him in the same way I love my friends. You are basing your translation on your own existence (which is commendable BTW, men like you are rare), I’m taking into account the entire series and all of Ragnar and Athelstan’s interactions. A scene of Aslaug directly asking Ragnar if he loved her and him responding with silence occurred, followed immediately by a scene —the full version which includes Ragnar propositioning another threesome and grabbing Athelstan’s ass— of Ragnar gently holding Athelstan’s hand and telling him that he’ll follow him wherever he goes. I know for a certainty Ragnar isn’t gay or bi canon-wise. Although shipping fanfic aside, it makes me feel terrible to know his friend is gone. I’m pretty giant and fit compared to my friends who are smaller and my foremost friend is like 15cm shorter than me. I hug the guy all the time (nothing sexual, of course, I contain a gf) and he reminds me so much of Athelstan it’s ridiculous. I’d go nuts if I lost him, he’s been with me for over 10 years. I understand Ragnar’s transformation this season.
